YOU MUST GO THROUGH THIS LIST OF "ADD URL" PAGES! You don't need to seek them - I've done this work already for you (and for myself:).
AltaVista - The new AltaVista (one of the biggest SEARCH ENGINES)!
Excite - If you get your site into Excite, it will also be in AOL Netfind. But most sites have a hard time staying in for more than three weeks. Just submit your main URL, i.e. http://www.yourname.com. They tend to "stick" more than side pages.
HotBot - HotBot is made by the people over at Wired.
Lycos - No special tips... it's pretty straightforward to submit here.
Webcrawler - Webcrawler is owned by the same people that run Excite, however they seem to maintain separate databases. So, submit to both. Webcrawler says that what you include in the page title greatly influences your listing.
Planet Search - This is a very new entrant to the Big Eight. And it looks like a very promising one, too!
Northern Lights - It has already off to a good start!
Yahoo - This is one of the best places to get listed, because it will get you lots of traffic. (It is sending about 150 visitors a day.) Only problem is that it is next to impossible to get in, because Yahoo has been known as one of the hardest places to get listed. First, you should try to submit normally. Wait for a few weeks, and then if you still aren't in, you can try some of these methods:
Phone in. This is the latest and greatest tip going around right now. (Many people say they have gotten listed right away with it). All you do is phone in, and you should be able to talk to a Yahoo Rep who will get your site listed for you. The number is: (408) 731-3300. Make sure you call during office hours, which are 8:30AM to 5:00PM PST.
Another method that is supposed to work really well:
Submit your site to a regional directory, such as Yahoo Canada, even if your site has nothing to do with it. Often times the Yahoo editors will send you an email telling you that your site isn't appropriate, and that you have been listed in the main Yahoo instead. (This works especially well at the new regional Yahoos.)
There is a rumor saying that if you submit your domain name using one of Yahoo's free email addresses you stand a better chance of getting listed. (Try, anyway.)
Just remember: With all these methods of submission, a Yahoo reviewer will (or should) visit your site. So if your site doesn't look any good, you won't get in no matter how many tricks you try.

OTHER SEARCH ENGINES
IT'S INTERESTING TO GO THROUGH THIS LIST OF OTHER SEARCH ENGINES!
iWon.com - New portal backed by CBS and featuring Inktomi's directory search engine, which automatically classifies web sites into categories. And they're giving away money through a sweepstakes to visitors.
HotLinks - Haven't had a chance to try this yet, but the idea is that by collecting people's bookmarks, the service can guide you to helpful web sites.
WebData.com - Try this site if you are looking for business and company information.
FindWhat.com - This is a relatively new paid placement search engine that follows the GoTo.com model.
FlySwat - Apparently an Alexa-like navigational tool you might find interesting.
4anything.com - Imagine Yahoo or any directory, where each category is established at its own web site. That's essentially 4anything.com.
InvisibleWeb.com - New service from Intelliseek, launched in late October, that allows you to find databases with information that search engines can't crawl.
SearchButton - Need the ability for people to search your site? That's what SearchButton offers. No software to install, and no cost if you don't mind having ads run in your results. Ad-free versions are also available, for a fee -- as are versions for large enterprises.
Oingo - Search service that is designed to help you better find what you are looking for by presenting concepts at the top of the search results list. Results come from the Open Directory and AltaVista. And no, the name has nothing to do with the band Boingo, formerly Oingo Boingo. It's an acronym, but the site owners aren't saying what it stands for.
C4.com - A new meta search service.
SurfWax - A metasearch tool with features designed to help you refine your query based on the content of pages it finds.
WhisperNumber.com - This site gives you the unofficial forecast of company earnings as determined by what people are saying on the web.
paidsrf_.htm - "GET PAID TO SERF THE WEB" programs ANALYSIS.
